CID grills Batticaloa MP

Mr.Alisahir Moulana, United National Party member of Parliament for Batticaloa was grilled by officers of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Sri Lankan Police for five hours about his party's alleged contacts with the Liberation Tigers in the east last evening .
Mr.Moulana was summoned to the CID head quarters at 3 p.m. yesterday and had been questioned at length until 8 p.m. The UNP had got in touch with the Inspector General of Police about the interrogation of the MP party sources said today. The CID sleuths had queried the MP about the bomb blast at the Sri Lankan President's campaign meeting at the Colombo town hall grounds on December 18 last year in which she was wounded in the eye. He had also been interrogated about the UNP leader's visit to Batticaloa during the Presidential election campaign in December last year to address a propaganda meeting. Mr.Moulana was questioned about the activities of the four Batticaloa UNP organisers who were arrested last month by a special CID team and about the party's election campaign work in those parts of the eastern district controlled by the Liberation Tigers in December last year. The CID had asked the MP about the identity of some LTTE leaders in his district sources close to him said. Three organisers of the UNP in Batticaloa, Sinnathamby Kathirkamathamby, W. Fernando and Rudra Ignatius were arrested in Batticaloa on February 3 by a special CID team from Colombo. The chief UNP organiser for the district Mr. Rajan Sathiyamoorthy surrendered later on Feb 10 to the Police. The four are being held by the CID for investigations under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
