Murdered prisoners innocent - Devananda
[TamilNet, Monday, 15 December 1997, 23:59 GMT]
Leader of the EPDP Douglas Devananda sent an urgent fax to the Sri Lankan Presdient today claiming that he is personally aware that the two Tamil prisoners from Jaffna killed in the Kalutara prison are innocents and therefore their bodies should be released to their kith and kin for funerals in the peninsula.
"I am personally aware that they had no connection with anti-government group" he asserts in his fax. The EPDP leader has informed the President in his fax that one of the prisoners killed in the prison attack, Shanmugarajah Sivanesan, is related to him. Meanwhile some relatives of Shanmugarajah living in Vavuniya have been summoned by the Kaluatara Police to identify the body of the deceased today. They set out from Vavuniya today with a Police escort in a Sri Lankan Red Cross Society vehicle.
