Sri Lanka on war-footing

The Sri Lankan minister of Post, Telecommunication and Media Mr.Mangala Samaraweera announcing cabinet decision Wednesday said that the country has been put on a war footing. Meanwhile sources said the Indian Central Government has declined to respond positively to the Sri Lankan Government's request for assistance to handle the military crisis in the north of the island.
Mr. Samaraweera said that the cabinet has unanimously decided to defeat the "terrorist threat". The minister said that all development work that are considered "non-essential" will be suspended for three months to take forward the government's war effort. He said that the cabinet firmly resolved to fight and defeat "terrorism", and called on all communities of Sri Lanka to back the government.
