The World Bank has allocated this money to the Sri Lankan Government to provide quarters to teachers as an incentive for them to serve in war-torn areas. Up to now not a single cent has been utilized for this purpose, the visiting World Bank team told the CTTU delegation when the latter complained that the Northeast Ministry of Education had not implemented a scheme to pay incentive allowance to teachers who serve in difficult areas. The World Bank team requested the CTTU delegation, led by its General Secretary Mr.T.Mahasivam, to exert pressure on the Northeast Ministry of Education to construct quarters for teachers serving in war-torn areas. This World Bank team is in Sri Lanka assessing the progress made in the implementation of the new education reforms, funded by the World Bank.
