Four civilians killed in air raid - radio

Four civilians were killed and two others, including a nine year old school boy were wounded in an air raid by Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) jets at Chundikulam in the north-east of the island around 10.40 a.m. Saturday, the Voice of Tigers (VoT) radio said in its news broadcast this evening.

Of the four civilians who were killed, two died on the spot and the other two died at the hospital on admission.

Several huts belonging to fishermen in this coastal village were also destroyed in the air raid, according to the radio.

The radio also gave the names of those who were killed in Saturday's air raid. They are:

  • Jesudas Rosemalar, 28 of Kaddaikadhu
  • Selathurai Pirabakar, 22, of Pt.Pedro Selvanayagam, also known as A.K.Iayah, father of nine
  • Mathiyas Maniwannan
The wounded civilians, Ramasamy Chandramohan,20 of Venavil, Puthukudiyiruppu and Jesudas Quin, 9, have been admitted to the Puthukudiyiruppu hospital, the radio further said.

Jesudas Quin is son of Rosemalar who was killed in the air raid today. His father was killed in an air attack by the SLAF on 18 February 1994, according to the radio.
