Three soldiers killed in LTTE ambush

Three Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers were killed and 2 others were wounded in an ambush by the Liberation Tigers at Sasthikulankulam, 6 km. west of Vavuniya town, around 5.45 p.m. Friday, security sources in the northern town said.

The wounded soldiers have been transported to the Anuradhapura military hospital, the sources added.

In a separate incident, the Liberation Tigers fired mortars at SLA forward defence lines in Omanthai, north of Vavuniya around 4.20 p.m. Friday. The troops retaliated by firing shells towards LTTE positions, the sources said. Details of casualties were not known.
