Attorney-at-Law Kasinathar Sivapalan will lead the list of Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) candidates to contest the Trincomalee electoral district during the forthcoming parliamentary election.

This was unanimously decided at a special committee meeting of the TULF, Trincomalee district branch held Sunday morning and presided over by Mr.R.Sampanthan, Secretary General of the party and the Trincomalee District Parliamentarian at his residence.

Mr.Sampanthan came from Colombo to Trincomalee on Saturday to attend the committee meeting.

Differences of opinion, which arose in the rank and file of the TULF district branch over the selection of the lead candidate of the Trincomalee list of candidates, were sorted out during the meeting. Mr.Sampanthan played a key role in bringing several factions of the branch members under one wing to accept his nominee, Sivapalan, as the lead candidate, TULF sources said.

Mr.Sivapalan was born at Pallikudiruppu village in Muttur area and had his primary education at Kinniya, a traditional Muslim village in the Trincomalee district and higher education at Jaffna Hindu College. A human rights activist, Mr. Sivapalan is presently attached to the Legal Aid Commission, Trincomalee Unit. His father late Mr.S.Kasinathar was a Principal who served several rural schools in the Trincomalee district.

Mr.R.Parasuraman, a Saiva Pulavar and retired Assistant Director of Education who hails from Eechchilampathhai village in Muttur area will be given second place in TULF list.

At the conclusion of the special committee meeting, both Mr. Sivapalan and Mr.Parasuraman attended the committee meeting at the invitation of the committee. Both thanked the TULF Committee for selecting them unanimously to contest the Trincomalee electoral district on behalf of the TULF, party sources said.
