While addressing a People's Alliance (PA) election rally at Kurunagala, Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake said that his government will not enter into any cease-fire agreement with the Liberation Tigers, despite the calls being made repeatedly by the United National Party (UNP) to establish cease-fire with the LTTE and to stop the war.
Mr.Wickremanayake said that the government is not ready to halt the military offensives now being launched in the north. "We will be betraying our soldiers now engaged in battle if we do so," he added. He added that the war would be fought until "terrorism is eliminated" from the country. The government is committed to ending the war successfully and restoring peace in the island, he further said.
