The Court of Appeal has declared that the nomination list submitted by the Tamil United Liberation Front to contest the Digamadulla (Ampara) electoral district invalid.
The Court of Appeal Wednesday made the above order after examining the petition filed by the leader of an independent group contesting the district Mr.Thambiappah Gopalakrishnan. The petition stated that the signature of the party secretary of the TULF nomination list had not been attested. Meanwhile another petition has been filed in the Court of Appeal seeking the rejection of the nomination list submitted by the National Unity Alliance (NUA) for the Batticaloa district. The petition filed by a TELO candidate Mr.N.Indrakumaran claimed that one of the candidates in the National Unity Alliance list is in Malaysia while another in the custody of the Terrorism Prevention Unit. The petitioner seeks an order rejecting the nomination list of the NUA for violating the Election Act by hiding these facts.
