Grenade attack in Jaffna

A Sri Lanka Army soldier was killed and three others were wounded in a grenade attack on a sentry post at Temple road in Jaffna around 2.30 p.m. Friday said sources.

A 54-year old woman identified as Nadarajah Sarojinithevi was wounded in retaliatory fire by the soldiers. She was admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.

In a separate incident a Sri Lanka Army soldier was wounded in a claymore attack at 5th mile post on the Vavuniya-Mannar trunk road around 7.30 a.m. Friday.

Security sources said the Tigers set off the mine targeting a foot patrol who were on a route clearing mission. Soldiers conducted a search operation in the area after the attack.
