ICRC dissemination program for Trinco LTTE

The International Committee of Red Cross Wednesday held a one-day dissemination program for the combatants of the Liberation Tigers in the Mutur area, which is not under the control of the Sri Lankan army.
"This is the first time such a dissemination program for LTTE combatants was held in Trincomalee district", said Mr. M. Pushparajan, Dissemination officer of the Trincomalee Delegation of the International Committee of Red Cross. Major (retd) Tim Yates of the British Army from the ICRC Delegation in New Delhi, India conducted the Dissemination program for the LTTE combatants in a village in the Mutur area, which is under the control of the Liberation Tigers. Ms Dagmara Dzik, Protection Delegate of the ICRC, Mutur Sub Office assisted Major Tim Yates in conducting the Dissemination Program. "This dissemination program is a part of the ICRC's effort to promote and strengthen the humanitarian laws and principle among the parties to the conflict in accordance with our mandate bound by Geneva Conventions in an attempt to minimize the impact of the armed conflict on the victims of war" said Mr. Pushparajan, The International Committee of Red Cross earlier conducted a three-day workshop on the International Humanitarian Law (Law of War) for Sri Lanka Navy officers in Trincomalee from May 17 to May 19.
