127 Jaffna civilians hurt last year

Medical authorities in the peninsula revealed today that 127 persons injured or dead in mines blasts and shooting incidents were brought to the Jaffna general hospital during 1997.

Hospital records show that 41 of these persons lost either leg in anti personnel landmines (APLMs). The records also show that sixteen deaths due to shooting and APLMs.

Many of the deaths due to shooting were brought in between september and late December, said hospital sources.
