EPRLF put to flight

EPRLF cadres who were putting up the group's posters in Pidariyar Kovil at Thavady yesterday, for the forthcoming local government elections in Jaffna, were asked by the Liberation Tigers to leave the area.
The Liberation Tigers asked the EPRLF in a polite manner, according to local residents, not to engage in election campaigning in the area. However, while the discussion was going on, the EPRLF cadres suddenly tried to take hold of the Tigers and then grappled with them. This prompted the Tiger fighters to discharge a grenade and the EPRLF had taken to its heels, said local residents. No one was hurt in the explosion. However, other party sources in Jaffna said that it was improbable that the EPRLF could have garppled with the LTTE. Elections for the 17 local government bodies in the Jaffna peninsula are due on January 29.
