SLA arrests eight in Batticaloa

The Sri Lanka army arrested five persons Tuesday in the outer suburbs of Batticaloa town. They were taken into custody by the military intelligence unit of the SLA in Batticaloa, Police sources said. Three persons were arrested on 3 November by the SLA from two villages close to the eastern town. The eight have been detained by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Police for further inquiries, sources said.
The five civilians arrested on Tuesday are: 1. Kanapathipillai Thurairajah (Navatkudah) 2. Kovindasamy Sivakumar (Navatkudah) 3. Muruhappan Muraleetharan (koolavadi) 4. Vijayasundaram Thushyanthan (Amirthakali) 5. Thangavadivel (village officer, Navatkudah) The three persons who were arrested on 3 November by the SLA at Saththurukkondaan, near Batticaloa town are: 1. Murugupillai Mahathevan, 27 (Saththurukkondaan) 2. Shanmugam Sooriyakumar, 16 (Thannamunai) 3. Pangaraas Vijayakumar, 22 (Thannamunai)
