NSSP leader wounded in attack

Unidentified persons Friday morning attacked Dr. Wickremabahu Karunaratna, the leader of the Nava Sama Samaja Party (NSSP), and his supporters at Wellampitiya in Colombo town when they were engaged in electioneering. Dr.Karunaratna was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital, police sources said.
Dr.Karunaratna is the chief candidate of the NSSP contesting the Colombo district. The Police said they have arrested one person in connection with the incident. Meanwhile the Police Election Secretariat Friday said that total number of election related complaints has risen to 1575 since the nominations were filed on 27 October 27. 806 complaints were made by the United National Party and 526 by the ruling People's Alliance, the police said.
