A grenade was thrown at four persons from the Democratic Peoples Liberation Front (DPLF) traveling in a trishaw between Siththankerni and Valakumbarai on the Chulipuram Road, 18 km north of Jaffna town yesterday, said sources in Jaffna. There were no casualties.
The four persons were canvassing for the forthcoming local government election. The grenade, thrown from a green car traveling from the Valakumbarai direction, hit the fender of the trishaw and exploded when it hit the ground. The perpetrators were not identified though the grenade number was noted as No.650. The DPLF in a recent statement accused the Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) of interfering with the election by intimidating members of other parties contesting the polls.
