Keethan, the political wing leader of the Liberation Tigers in the Batticaloa district told a visiting peace delegation led by Mr. Wasala Bandara, the head of Organisation for the Protection of Democratic Rights,a peace NGO based in Colombo that two SLA soldiers in the LTTE's custody will be released on Jan 15. The peace delegation visited Batticaloa on Saturday, January 10.
The delegation went to the LTTE controlled Paduvankarai region west of Batticaloa to meet with Keethan. At the discussion the Colombo peace delegation requested the Liberation Tigers on behalf of the parents of two soldiers who were captured by the Liberation Tigers at Maavadivembu, 17 kilometers north of Batticaloa on the main road to Valaichenai. The soldiers were captured by the LTTE two months ago. Some sources said that the two had deserted and were trying to make good their escape out of the district when they were taken by the LTTE. No details of the mode of release on January 15 were available.
