A Tamil youth, S. Sivakumar (17), was severely wounded when he was shot by soldiers while he was fishing at the Valaichenai lagoon, at 6.00 p.m. today, said sources in Valachenai.

The soldiers were returning from a patrol on the Valaichenai - Kalkudah Road 32 km north of Batticaloa. Sivakumar was admitted to Batticaloa Hospital.

This followed an incident at 7.30 a.m. this morning in the same area, when a Muslim youth, Achchi Muhamdu (28) was electrocuted when he got entangled into the electrified fence that runs along the perimeter of the Valaichenai military camp.

One side of the perimeter is along the Valaichenai lagoon where Achchi Muhamadu was fishing.
