The court of appeal rejected today, the counter-plaint filed by the PLOTE against the TULF's plaint, challenging the rejection of its nomination list to the Jaffna local government polls.
The Sri Lankan court of appeal upheld the TULF's position that rejection of its nomination papers by the elections commission was not valid. The PLOTE was cited as one of the respondents in the case filed by the TULF against the rejection of party's nominations. TULF sources said that they will be leaving for Jaffna as soon as possible and begin election campaigning. TULF filed nominations to two local government bodies, Jaffna Municipal council and Waligamam north Pradeshiya Sabha. The elections commission rejected both nominations on legal grounds. The elections for the seventeen local government bodies are scheduled for January 29. "The court decision can change the equation in the Jaffna local polls", said political observers in Colombo.
