SLA patrol ambushed

[TamilNet, Saturday, 17 January 1998, 23:59 GMT]
The Liberation Tigers ambushed a Sri Lankan army patrol in the Yala wild life sanctuary in the south-eastern corner of the island yesterday. Sources said that there was a firefight between both sides.

The SLA in the area, however, said that the LTTE had only exploded a claymore mine on the patrol.

The incident was reported in the Patanagala area of the wild life park which is closer to Kadirgamam, one of Sri Lanka's main pilgrimage centres.
