A deputation of the National Bhikku Front (Jathika Maha Sangha Sammelanaya)
Monday night requested President Chandrika Kumaratunge to take control of
the Defence Ministry and to use her executive powers to prevent the
de-proscription of the LTTE and setting up of an interim administration in
the Northeast Province.
The deputation met the President at her office at the end of the meeting
held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH)
Monday evening. The deputation told the President to come forward to save the country from
being divided through peace talks between the UNF government and the LTTE in
the name of finding a peaceful solution to the conflict. President Chandrika Kumaratunge replied that she is totally against the
de-proscription of the LTTE and the setting up of an interim administration
in the Northeast Province.
