High Court allows bail for rape victim

Sathasivam Rahykala, 28, who had been subjected to severe torture and sexual assault by several police personnel while in custody was allowed on surety bail by the Eastern High Court Judge Mr.J.Visvanathan Friday at Batticaloa session.

The Judge allowed the bail application made by Mr. N.Sivanantharajah of the Home for the Human Rights on behalf of the victim woman.

The suspect Ms Sathasivam Rathykala was indicted by the Attorney General for obtaining arms training from the LTTE and causing deaths to army soldiers stationed at Vadamunai camp. The inquiry in this case was put off for a later date.

According to the medical report of the Batticaloa Judicial Medical Officer, the suspect had been subjected to torture and sexual assault by twelve police officers while in their custody at Polonaruwa police station.
