TNA meets PM over EPDP cadres in Delft

A Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentary delegation Monday brought to the
notice of the Prime Minister Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe that members of Eelam
Democratic party (EPDP) now in Delft island in Jaffna district are
armed and are also moving about in naval uniform. The TNA delegation requested
the Prime Minister to take stern steps to prevent incidents similar to those
that had taken
place at Kanchirankuda and Trincomalee last month, in the Delft Island.
The TNA delegation led by Mr.Sampanthan and comprising parliamentarians
Messrs V.Anandasangaree, A.Vinayagamoorthy, K.Thangavadivel, Selvam
Adaikalanathan, N.Raviraj, G.G.Gajendrakumar, Raja Kuhaneswaran and
K.Thurairetnasingham met the Prime Minister in the parliamentary complex
Monday. The Prime Minister immediately summoned the Inspector General of Police
Mr.T.E.Anandarajah who was in the official gallery watching the committee
stage debate of the Interior Ministry and discussed with him about the
situation in Delft Island following the return of some EPDP cadres. The EPDP members now at Delft have been given full support by the Sri Lanka
Navy and the Police. The people of Delft have a right to oppose the
presence of the EPDP members there in a democratic way, TNA delegation
stressed. The TNA delegation was told at the discussion that the Police department
has sent a senior Superintendent of Police to Jaffna to take immediate
steps to maintain law and order in the Delft Island.
