Japanese envoy unveils key Secretariat in Kilinochchi

The secretariat of the Sub-Committee for
Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of the Northeast was
opened in Kilinochchi Sunday morning, according to the
Voice of Tigers radio. Japan’s ambassador for Sri
Lanka unveiled the secretariat’s name board while
Norway’s ambassador cut the ribbon to ceremonially
open the building, according to the VOT.
Mr. M. Iranius Selvin, a senior bureaucrat with the
Northeast Provincial Council, assumed duties as the
director of the secretariat, the radio said. Mr. S. L.
M Faleel and Mr. D. D Amaratunga took up duties as
deputy directors. Mr. Jon Westborg, Norway’s ambassador for Sri Lanka
and Mr. S. P Thamilchelvan, the head of the LTTE’s
political division, addressed the gathering at the
opening ceremony. The head of the LTTE’s peace secretariat, Mr.
Pulithevan presided. The meeting of the sub-committee began at 2 p.m.
following lunch. The LTTE delegation was led by Mr. S. P Thamilchelvan and the GOSL delegation by Mr. Bernard Gunatilleke ofthe Sri Lankan government’s peace secretariat in Colombo. The Norwegian and Japanese ambassadors also took part
in the meeting, the VOT said.
