Sporadic violence in Jaffna

A mentally unbalanced person was shot and wounded by the SLA around midnight on Kasturiyar Road in Jaffna town. He was admitted to the Jaffna hospital and has been identified as Arunaslam Nagaratnam,47.
Meanwhile, reports said that mortar and artillery shells fell in Milavu junction in the Raasavin Thottam area near the Jaffna town last night. No one was injured. Another shell fell in Aachchiramam on Tample road also in the town but had not exploded said sources. Meanwhile, SLA sources in Jaffna said that the LTTE had attacked an army point near the Gurunagar housing scheme last night injuring one soldier. The army had launched a clearing operation in the area following the attack said the sources. Meanwhile a group of Liberation Tigers attacked an army unit which was putting up a road block by the Ramakrishna Viththiyalayam in Kondavil around 9.40 p.m. last night. Troops fired back but the Tigers withdrew said the Ministry of Defence (MoD) release put out this morning in Jaffna.
