Jaffna observes Major Sothia death anniversary

The thirteen-death anniversary of Major Sothia, a senior commander of the
women wing of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, who died in 1990 after
an illness, was observed in
Vadamarachchi area in Jaffna district. Saturday. She was the first
commander of the LTTE women wing, sources said.
The flame of sacrifice was lit at the memorial of Major Sothia located at
Keeripalai cemetery in Karanavai east. The memorial was garlanded by
several dignitaries who attended the event. Mr.Daya, Political head of the
LTTE in Vadamarachchi
division presided over the event, sources said. Major Sothia was taken ill at a time when the Indian Army occupied the
northeast in 1990. She died after being taken to Vanni, sources said. 'Major Sothia Brigade ' was formed in the LTTE after her name and it
plays a vital role in the LTTE women army, sources said.
