Court begins sessions in Chavakachcheri after three years

After a lapse of three years the Chavakachcheri Magistrate Courts Monday resumed its sitting in a rented private building on Kachchai-Chavakachcheri road, legal sources said. The magistrates' court was closed down when the
people of Thenamaradchchi fled to other areas following a military operation launched by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in May 2000, civil sources said.
The court buildings with legal records were completely destroyed in the military operations by the SLA, sources said. However the Magistrate appointed for Chavakachcheri held court sittings temporarily at Point Pedro till Friday last week. The new magistrate Mr. Kandiah Ariyanayakam Monday assumed duties at Chavakachcheri after taking oaths as Magistrate before Jaffna District Judge and Mr.R.T.Viknarajah Monday morning, court sources said
