Film on Women's struggle released in Batticaloa

Commemorating International Women Day, the Nitharsanam women film unit of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) released a full feature film, “Uppil Uraintha Uthirangal” (Blood stained sea), in Kaluthavalai Maha Vidyalayam, Batticaloa, Sunday sources said.

Pattiruppu head of the political section of LTTE, Kartig, presided the ceremony. Batticaloa-Amparai head of political section, E. Kausalyan was invited as the chief guest for the event. Parliamentarian G. Krishnapillai (Vellimalai), Trincomalee Director of Nitharsanam, Varathan, Batticaloa director of Nitharsanam, Rajeevan, Batticaloa-Amparai political head of the LTTE women's wing, Premini, Batticaloa-Amparai head of Nitharsanam women's wing, Malarvili, other LTTE commanders and co-ordinators attended the event.

The film tells the true story of a woman cadre in the freedom struggle. The producer of the film Ms. Kuyili, was commended by Thanigasalam, who critiqued the film, for highlighting rights, self-respect and dignity of women, contribution of women in defense, and issues the confront women in government and private institutions in the international scene.
