Shelling wounds more civilians

Nine more civilians were injured by Sri Lankan security forces counter fire in the Batticaloa district today. Four people were injured when Sri Lankan Police fired shells indiscriminately into civilian areas around 12.30 in the afternoon, after a police constable was injured when the Liberation Tigers attacked the Valaichenai Police camp a short while earlier.
Meanwhile, four more civilians were wounded in Karayakkanthivu, in the western hinterland, across the Batticaloa lagoon, in the Sri Lankan Army's counter shelling this morning. They have been admitted to the Batticaloa hospital. Six more Sri Lankan Air Force personnel who were wounded in the LTTE's morning attack on the SLAF base in Batticaloa have been admitted to the Batticaloa hospital.
