The Jaffna Magistrate Mr.R.T.Viknarajah Thursday afternoon ordered the Police to arrest and produce a key suspect Napoleon in court in connection with the murder of journalist Mylvaganam Nimalarajan. Earlier the same day the Magistrate ordered the release of Napoleon when he was present in court in connection with the Naranthanai murder and assault case, legal sources said.

In the Naranthanai murder and assault case two supporters of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) were killed and several TNA leaders were wounded in an attack by a group of para military cadres of the Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) during the last general election held in December 2001. Napoleon is one of the key suspects in this case, legal sources said.

The Naranthanai murder and assault case was taken up for inquiry Thursday morning before Jaffna Magistrate. The key suspect Napoleon who was evading arrest for several months in connection with this case was present in court Thursday, sources said.

The Jaffna Magistrate Thursday morning allowed Napoleon on bail with two sureties who are permanent residents of Jaffna and a sum of Rs 50,000. The court warned Napoleon not to intimidate or interfere with witnesses in the case. The suspect was further ordered to appear before Kayts Police every month last Sunday and sign the record ensuring his attendance, legal sources said.

When the journalist Mylvaganam Nimalarajan murder case was taken up for inquiry Thursday afternoon, on an application made by Attorney-at-Law Mr.M.Remedius the Jaffna Magistrate Mr.R.T.Viknarajah ordered the Jaffna Police to arrest and produce Napoleon before court, legal sources said.

Counsel Remedius who watched the interest of journalist Nimalarajan requested the court to execute the open warrant issued against the suspect Napoleon earlier. The Magistrate then instructed the Jaffna Police to arrest Napoleon and produce him before court, sources said
