CID told to produce Nimalarajan murder suspect

[TamilNet, Saturday, 26 April 2003, 02:59 GMT]
Jaffna district court Judge T. Vignarajah warned the officials of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) that failure to produce, Nepolean, the military head of the Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) who is a key suspect in the Nirmalarajan murder case, will result in the court taking disciplinary action against the CID, local press in Jaffna said.

In a report submitted by Ranjit De Silva, head of Jaffna CID, when the case was taken up in court Friday, it was stated that the investigations have not been completed on the 9mm handguns surrendered by the EPDP cadres to the Sri Lanka military commanders in Jaffna.

The Judge ordered the CID to have the reports on the handguns ready when the next hearing on the case is held on 30 May.

Judge Vignarajah also demanded to know why the murder supect Napolean was not produced as he had ordered during the last hearing on 27 March.

Gunmen suspected to be members of the Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) murdered Nimalarajan, a popular Jaffna journalist who worked for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), at his residence on October 19 2000.
