Tamil students to celebrate day of Uprising

With the motto "We will saw the seeds of education that instills responsibility and determination to preserve our motherland," Tamil students across Jaffna Peninsula are preparing to celebrate the day of student Uprising Friday, local reports from Jaffna said.

Jaffna district leader of the student organizations, Elilanpan has appealed to students and public in Jaffna to extend their co-operation and participate in these events, reports added.

Processions leading to the celebration venue are being organized in the four regions of Jaffna peninsula. Jaffna and Valigamam celebrations are to be held in Jaffna Hindu College Grounds. The student procession is scheduled to begin at 10 am from Jaffna Central College grounds and will proceed through Clock Tower Road, Hospital Road and Kasturiar Road and will reach the Hindu College Grounds.

In Vadamaradchy celebrations are to be held in Nelliady Madhya Maha Vidyalayam. The procession will start at the Navalar madam and will proceed along the Point-Pedro Jaffna road and will reach the college grounds.

In Thenmaradchy, the procession will start from Meesalai junction at 10 am and will reach Chavakachcheri Hindu College Grounds where celebrations are scheduled to be conducted.

In the Jaffna Islets, celebrations will take place in Velanai Central College, reports said.

Special celebrations are also to be held near the statue of Pon.Sivakumaran, the first maaveeran in Tamil Eelam struggle, in Urumpirai junction at 9am. Students will march to this venue from Urumpirai Hindu College grounds, according to reports.

Celebrations also will take place at the Munthiri Junction between Urumpirai and Kopay Krishnan Kovil junction at the spot where Jaffna district student leader Major Murali died.

Local reports said that the celebrations will continue till 7 pm with sports meets and cultural events.
