NE observes Environment Day

Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) and Tamil Eelam Economic Development Organization (TEEDOR), Thursday organised tree planting campaign in the Northeast province to mark the World Environment Day.

In Trincomalee, TEEDOR organized planting saplings in schools in the district.

TEEDOR district head Mr.S.Tharman participated in the tree-planting event held at Trincomalee St Mary's College Thursday. TEEDOR Trincomalee head Mr.Tharman inaugurated the campaign by planting a sapling in the school premises, sources said.

Principal of the College Sister Theresa Ranee, teachers and students participated.

TEEDOR Trincomalee district head Mr.Tharman said that they organized a competition among students to encourage them to plant saplings in schools and in their homes. This is to instill in the minds of younger generation awareness in safeguarding the environment.

TEEDOR has supplied tree saplings to all schools and residents, he said.
