Two Jaffna based journalists Mr.V. Thavachelvam and Mr.M.K.Jeevagathas were honoured Sunday by the Kaddaiveli-Nelliyady Cultural Federation in Jaffna district in an event held at Nellai Thiru Murugan Hall where Jaffna district political head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Mr. S.Ilamparithi was the chief guest, sources in Jaffna said.

This event was presided by Mr.T.Sithamparapillai, president of the Kadaiveli-Nelliady Cultural Federation.

Mr.Thavachelvam was presented with an Award for Courageous Journalism and Mr.Jeevagathas with an Award for his long and dedicated service in Journalism, sources said.

Mr.Ilamparuthi said that Tamil journalists played a vital role for the success of the Tamil liberation struggle. Journalists should work to free communities from suppression of any kind.

Mr.Nimalarajan worked with courage and sacrificed his life to expose those who were helping leaders in power to suppress the Tamils, he added.

Journalism is a powerful weapon and it should be used to alleviate the suffering of the under privileged classes and minorities who are suppressed by governments in power and other elements in authority, he said.
