Human skeletons recovered in Ariyalai

Human skeletons and other remains were recovered in Nedunkulam junction area in Ariyalai, Jaffna, by members of the Halo Trust group who are engaged in mine clearing operations along the Jaffna-Kandy (A9) road in Ariyalai, early last week sources said.

Jaffna Police were notified of the matter who inturn informed Jaffna district Judge R.T.Wignarajah of the recovery of skeletons.

The Judge visited the location where the skeletons were found and ordered the Police and mine clearing groups to expedite the mine clearing effort around the area and to ensure that all possible human remains are recovered.

Skeletons recovered have been sent to Colombo for forensic identification, Police sources said.
