SLMM head’s Vanni visit postponed

The Norwegian head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission, Major General (retd.) Triggve Teleffsen, has put off his visit to the Vanni till he finds a solution to dispute between the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and the Sri Lanka Army in the Trincomalee district, SLMM sources said.

The SLMM head's Vanni visit was scheduled to commence on Tuesday to discuss various problems confronting the parties to the ceasefire agreement regarding the sea transport of LTTE cadres. During his Vanni visit, the SLMM head was to hold discussions with the LTTE’s political head, Mr. S. P. Thamilselvan, and Special Commander of the Sea Tigers, Mr. Soosai, regarding a new agreement formulated by the SLMM to reduce tensions in the sea, SLMM sources said.

The sources added that no new date has been fixed for the Vanni visit, as the SLMM head is actively involved in solving disputes between the LTTE and the Army in the Trincomalee district.
