Best local government bodies in NE chosen

A local government body at each of the Municiapl Council (MC), Urban Council (UC) and Pradeshiya Sabah (PS) levels has been adjudged the best in the North-East in a competition held in connection with the Local Government Week (July 14-21), and the bodies are the Batticaloa MC, the Vavuniya UC and the Vavuniya South Tamil PS, Sri Lanka’s provincial local government ministry sources said.

Awards to the best local government bodies in the province are to be distributed at the concluding event of the Provincial Local Government Week in Trincomalee on Monday, the sources said.

The ministry sources added that the Provincial Governor, Sri Lankan Major General Asoka Jayawardene, would be the chief guest at the event. The Special Guest will be the NEPC Chief Secretary, Mr.S.Rangaraja, and the Distinguished Guest will be the Provincial Local Government Ministry Secretary, Ms. Kamala Sivasithambaram and the Provincial Commissioner of Local Government, Ms D.D.Wijeluxmy, will preside over the event.
