The Sinhala nationalist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Tuesday vowed to
fight tooth and nail against the establishment of an interim administrative
council for the northeast province. " The proposed interim administrative
council would divide the country for ever," said the JVP General Secretary,
Mr.Tilvin Silva, addressing a press briefing Tuesday.
The JVP is to launch a massive agitation campaign in the country on August
6. The other opposition political parties have failed to “enlighten the masses
of the serious danger confronting the country with the establishment of the proposed interim administrative structure for the northeast province,” Mr.Tilvin Silva said. He said the country would disintegrate when the interim administrative council comes into operation. Talks with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) to forge an alliance was successful said Mr. Silva Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Freedom party, the main constituent of the main
opposition Peoples' Alliance said Tuesday that it would hold seminars on
the topic " You and We," educating the masses about the proposed interim
administrative structure proposals for the northeast province. The first
seminar will be held on August 15 in Colombo and it would be extended to
Hambantota and Polonnaruwa later. "The entire country would be covered within three months," said the SLFP's general secretary, Mr.Maithiripala Sirisena, at a press briefing.
