Sri Lanka's Defence Ministry Wednesday categorically denied reports carried by a section of the media, quoting the Defence Secretary, Mr. Austin Fernando, as saying that military force would be used if the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam failed to dismantle the controversial Kurankupanchan camp in the Trincomalee district.
The Defence Ministry's Operation Headquarters issued a press release signed
by the Military Spokesman, Brigadier Sanath Karunaratne, saying that the Defence Secretary had not made such a statement to the media, advocating military force to dismantle the LTTE camp. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission monitors in Trincomalee Wednesday visited the site of the Kurankupanchan LTTE camp to review the current
ground situation, SLMM sources said.
