The Point Pedro Magistrate Friday ordered the release of eight of the ten Indian fishermen arrested for poaching in the Inparuty seas in Vadamaradchi, Jaffna district, by the local fishermen, and the remaining two in remand are the boatmen, sources said.
The local fishermen who arrested the Indian fishermen Thursday later handed them over to the Point Pedro Police, who produced the Indian fishermen in court Friday. The Magistrate ordered that the released fishermen be handed over to the Indian Navy through the Sri Lanka Navy. But the two trawlers belonging to the Indian fishermen will continue to remain in the custody of the Sri Lanka Army, the Magistrate ordered.
