Gordon Weiss tries to unrelate fire and smoke: Jaffna politician

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 15 June 2011, 12:59 GMT]
“The problem was not that the army of Sri Lanka had decided to regain its sovereign territory and to take on the Tamil Tigers, whose brutality was a matter of record, the problem was the manner in which they carried out the final phase of the war and the sheer number, the sheer proportion, of civilians who were killed during these final assaults,” said Gorden Weiss, former UN spokesperson stationed in Colombo during the war, commenting on a fresh evidence of war crime brought out by Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) on Tuesday. By projecting the genocidal war waged by the Sri Lankan state in this manner, Gorden Weiss, who was veiling the crimes to the knowledge of the world when they were taking place, now tries to say that fire was not the problem but smoke was the problem, responded an Eezham Tamil politician in Jaffna.

The former UN official fails to recognise that LTTE controlling a territory was effected through an international peace facilitation and the Sri Lanka Army shouldn’t have waged the war to regain the territory breeching the peace facilitation, the politician further said, adding that the aim of the ilk of Gorden Weiss, who were all tools in the game, is to deny political justice to Eezham Tamils but to effect only a change in Colombo’s regime that has now become a liability to the masters behind them.

The 7.30 Programme of the ABC broadcast, reported by Sarah Dingle, showed a person being tortured and said that he was later found among the dead. ABC said that the broadcast was based on hundreds of images taken by a Sri Lankan soldier and obtained through a former vehicle driver of the ICRC.

Genocidal Colombo’s politician, Prof. Rajiva Wijesinghe who was asked by the ABC to comment on the programme said “One of the biggest problems Sri Lanka faces is to try to understand why we are being persecuted for having got rid of one of the most dangerous terrorists in the world. Why we are being persecuted for having rescued 300,000 people who were being held as hostages.”

His President often directly and indirectly hints that how could certain establishments of the world penalise him after asking him to do the job.

Rajiva Wijesinghe and all those who label the civilians who found refuge with the LTTE during the war as ‘hostages’ should answer why at every stage since the commencement of the war people preferred to move to the side of the LTTE than to the side of the SL Army, a social worker who was in Vanni during the war asked. During the final stages of the war the LTTE asked the IC to take direct responsibility of the civilians and guarantee their honour so that it could tell them to go. Who sat on it, the social worker asked.

Rajiva Wijesinghe who was allowed to make a campaign for a genocidal government in Australia and New Zealand, recently asked in Colombo’s parliament that how could New Zealand confer Queens Service Award to Mr. A. Thevarajan, a veteran social worker who was democratically elected by the Eezham Tamil diaspora in New Zealand to the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam.

Equating the war crimes of the SL government and the LTTE is being used for several purposes today. Sarah Dingle cited the UN panel report and said that the report “finds both sides potentially guilty of war crimes, but accuses the Sri Lankan government of responsibility for the majority of civilian deaths, which numbered up to 40,000 people.”

Ironically, the Australian government that receives officers of the SL Army accused for war crimes as diplomats and denies asylum to anyone connected to the LTTE, doesn’t equate them, commented a diaspora activist in Australia.

Meanwhile, John Dowd, the Australian president of the International Commission of Jurists, who also was interviewed by the ABC broadcast, said that the evidences are enough to hold a war crimes tribunal now.

The International Commission of Jurists will submit a case for a war crimes tribunal to the UN, John Dowd said.

“Sri Lanka is a rogue state in that it has for decades suppressed adverse news, it denies anything being wrong despite clear evidence that serious humanitarian disasters and war crimes were committed. The world should see that those crimes are brought to justice.,” he further said.
