45 Tamil girls enslaved as child soldiers in SL Military

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 19 January 2016, 23:39 GMT]
More than 45 Tamil girls, who were recruited from poverty-stricken Tamil families in the North have been deployed under genocidal Sinhala military commanders, who committed extensive acts of genocide in the past, escapees from Palaali told TamilNet. The SLA Commander in Jaffna instructed commanders under him to keep the enslaved Tamil girls under their direct supervision within the High Security Zone in Palaali while the Tamil men, who were trying to escape, were deployed as forced labourers to construct new fortifications inside the Sinhala Military Zone, a recently escaped Tamil said providing extensive details. As more than 450 of 600 Tamils deceived into the SL military have managed to escape and ‘military punishments‘ went contrary to the SL propaganda, sophisticated ‘loans’ and increased payments are being organised to keep the Tamil recruits enslaved, the source further revealed.

The Tamil girls are enlisted in the SL military records under identity cards from Sinhala women in the South to hide their age in the official records. But, pay-lists are maintained under their real names without date of birth, the source further said.

The latest trick under the Maithiripala regime is to permanently enslave the Tamil conscripts with the offer of ‘one million house loan’ and ‘100,000 rupee festival loan’, the source further said. The SL military was targeting to reduce the Tamil ‘recruits’ from leaving the military enslavement.

To obtain the one-million rupee house-loan a Tamil ‘soldier’ should present two relatives as guarantors and that these guarantors must be government employees.

The basic salary given to a Tamil ‘recruit’ is 15,000 rupees per month. But, various ‘performance’ based allowances are added to their paylist to produce an attractive sum of 50,000 rupee per month as salary after one-year of completed ‘service’.

For comparison, the salary of an average government employee who has served for more than 20 years stands at 40,000 rupees per month. The government employee is only eligible to obtain loans after 3-years of permanent employment.

Some of the 450 escaped Tamils from the SL military have managed to go abroad on employment to the Middle Eastern countries.

The SL military is now trying to block the forced Tamil labourer through binding their military service to bank loans attached to their families and to the guarantors among their relatives.

During the regime of Mahinda Rajapaksa, there was a military campaign to enlist a few Tamils as military personnel to the occupying military of genocidal Colombo, which is predominantly Sinhalese.

The project was targeting to recruit 1,000 Tamils in the first phase, which was launched a few months after the publication of the so-called Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC), which had become the blueprint for the Sinhalicisation of the Tamil homeland before year 2020 through the so-called ‘trilingual Sri Lanka’ programme.

Even the few collaborators among the Tamils remained highly sceptical to enlist their family members with the SL military despite the advertisement of good payments promised during the Rajapaksa regime,

Initially, the SL military was trying to woo individuals who had no direct combat or political involvement previously with the LTTE while it was maintaining thousands of former LTTE cadres, who were enslaved into the so-called Civil Security Division (CSD) as a slave workforce in Vanni.

The CSD-slaves were primarily employed in military-run farms in Vanni and were transported to and from the occupied former ‘High Security Zones’. The CSD ‘personnel’ have also been forced to work as ‘informant operatives’ and a section of them were also subjected to sexual exploitation by the occupying SL military.

In the meantime, some of the Tamil girls who were deceived to join the SL military for ‘computer jobs’ were forcefully transferred to military training and were subjected to various harassments at the hands of the Sinhala military men. Those who voiced against the exploitation among the Tamils, including a doctor, were detained indefinitely on the instruction by the Defence Ministry of occupying Colombo.

As it was unable to woo fresh recruits through adverts and PR campaigns, the SL commanders started to adopt rather deceptive head-hunting methods in 2014. Data was gathered through Divisional Secretariats and collaborating agents were deployed to recruit people to work as painters, music teachers, carpenters, dancers and technicians. Around 600 Tamils were enlisted in the SL military towards the end of 2014.

However, the recruited Tamils were also deployed as servants and coolies to the occupying SL military. More than 450 of these 600 Tamils had managed to escape from the SL military within an year.

It is under these circumstances, some of the recently escaped Tamils from the clutches of the SL military have revealed the shocking pattern of under-age recruitment of Tamil girls and enslavement of those recruited as servants to the genocidal commanders of the SL military.
