Tamil Nadu politician's family continues ‘Sri Lanka’ investment, disregards criticism

[TamilNet, Monday, 08 April 2019, 22:13 GMT]
Despite mounting criticisms, Silver Park Oil Refineries Pvt Ltd, owned by a Tamil Nadu politician's family, has begun its investment by transferring USD 400,000 to the SL Board of Investment, reports in Colombo said on Sunday. The forces, which have tricked the family of Tamil Nadu politician into the most massive single foreign direct investment ever in the history of the island so far, are aiming at blocking Tamils from waging a global BSD campaign against the SL State, Tamil activists in Jaffna said responded on Monday. SL Deputy Minister of International Trade and Development Strategies, Nalin Bandara was revealing the details of the initial transaction and forecasts of the USD 3.85 billion investment at a special media briefing held at the SL Information Department on Friday. The SL Minister was saying that the project would add USD 7 billion to the annual export earnings.

The Sunday Observer, which was citing the SL minister, said that the investment would be a ‘huge revolution’ in the export earning sector as “Sri Lanka currently receives only about US$ 17 billion from all other export earnings."

“We always sign agreements with a Sri Lankan company. Even here, Silver Park International formed a Sri Lankan company as Silver Park Refineries Pvt.Ltd., and BOI entered into an agreement with that Sri Lankan company,” Mr Bandara was quoted as responding to a question raised by the Sunday Observer.

Eezham Tamils have already urged the Tamil Nadu Politician S. Jagathrakshakan to withdraw from the deal. However, the DMK politician has been downplaying his role in contrary to the reports on the ground.

The matter is yet to receive broader attention in Tamil Nadu.

Sections of Tamil activists and opinion makers in Tamil Nadu are reluctant to criticise DMK politician S Jagathrakshakan, who is competing against A.K. Moorthy of PMK, which is aligned with the ruling AIDMK alliance that includes the BJP.

Tamils around the globe should take a careful note of the activists, writers, media, movements, political parties and their leaders in Tamil Nadu who fail to question and openly express their regret or condemnation of Tamil Nadu politician Jagathrakshakan's family business investing money on sustaining the ‘development’ paradigm of genocidal Sri Lanka, commented Tamil activists in the island.

Like the Tamil activists in Tamil Nadu, the grassroots of Eezham Tamils in the island and elsewhere, are also opposed to BJP's ‘Hindutva’ set up of New Dehli, which has joined hands with the genocidal Sinhala-Buddhist State.

The leading politicians of the BJP have been upholding the ruling regime in the island during the government of Rajapaksa as well as Maithiripala and Wickramasinghe, Tamil activists in Jaffna observed.

However, the failure of the DMK that opposes the BJP alliance in the Lok Sabha elections to course correct its candidate S Jagathrakshakan who is investing in ‘Sri Lanka’ has far-reaching consequences for Eezham Tamils as well as for Tamil Nadu Tamils, they said.

The investment would tantamount to another monumental failure in addressing geopolitical injustice and justice to genocide, the activists in the island commented.

Professor Francis Boyle, an eminent American expert in international law at the University of Illinois College of Law, has been calling for the Tamil diaspora to conceive a BDS campaign against genocidal Sri Lanka.

PMK leader S. Ramadoss, who is aligned with the AIDMK-BJP election coalition has reacted to the opponent as part of an electoral campaign in a meeting on Sunday.

“I am for Tamils starting industries abroad. However, the decision to start one in Sri Lanka, where Tamils were destroyed, speaks about him and his party. We want economic sanctions imposed on Sri Lanka, but the DMK is attempting to help them. This raises questions,” Mr Ramdoss was quoted as saying by The Hindu on Monday.
