SL Police, Forest Department connive against Tamil dairy farmers in Batticaloa[TamilNet, Wednesday, 31 January 2018, 15:01 GMT]Eight Tamil dairy farmers were ‘arrested’ on Tuesday by the guards of SL Forest Department alleging the former of being in possession of animal traps. The arrest came in the evening just a few hours after the farmers lodged a complaint with the SL Police in Karadiyanaa’ru against animal traps being laid against their cattle in Mayilaththa-madu pasture land area. The SL police told the farmers to remove the traps from the pasture land promising action against those laying the traps, the farmers said after getting released from the SL forest guards. Full story >> Organised rings backed by occupying Colombo exploit natural resources in East[TamilNet, Tuesday, 30 January 2018, 18:04 GMT]The Sinhala police and the military of occupying Colombo, collaborating with businessmen from South, are exploiting the natural resources of Paduvaan-karai region, where the major cultivable lands of Eezham Tamils in the Batticaloa district are situated. Paduvaan-karai, also known for dairy and cattle farming for decades, is being systematically targeted for Sinhalicisaton and colonisation by the Sinhalese from Polonnaruwa district under the rule of Maithiriapala Sirisena as the president and the minister of Mahaweli ‘development’. The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund are also backing Sirisena's discriminative ‘development’ programmes under the System B of Mahaweli irrigation scheme. It is under these circumstances, the occupying forces of genocidal Sri Lanka are engaged in plundering the sand and logging trees by harbouring the exploitative rings from the South. Full story >> Families urge NPC Chief Minister to ensure security of TPPs[TamilNet, Monday, 29 January 2018, 21:36 GMT]The families of Tamil political prisoners languishing in the jails of genocidal Sri Lanka met the Chief Minister of Northern Province Justice C.V. Wigneswaran on Monday, urging him to take up the matter of security of Tamil political prisoners who have been transferred to cells with underground criminals and Sinhala extremists who have earlier assaulted the Tamil prisoners at various prisons. A political prisoner who was earlier released also joined the families to narrate the concerns of TPPs directly to the chief minister, NPC sources in Jaffna said. Full story >> 37 fisher families in Batticaloa north vow to fight for their land rights[TamilNet, Sunday, 28 January 2018, 19:20 GMT]37 of 44 Tamil fisher families from Murungkaiyadi-munai village in Koa'ra'laip-pattu North (Vaakarai) in Batticaloa district were refusing to put their signatures on empty papers in 2008 when the military commander of 233 Brigade in Vaakarai was threatening them to do so and was demanding the official papers of their land ownership to be handed over to the SL military. Only 7 families succumbed to the pressure. After 10 years, these seven families have received an official letter from the SL authorities in January 2018 that they were being provided with alternative lands. The 37 families, who have been refusing to yield to the military threat, are enraged by the attitude of occupying Colombo. They are set to file a legal suit against the SL State, informed sources told TamilNet. Full story >> Sirisena opts for foreign tendering of ‘Mahinda resort’ in KKS, Jaffna[TamilNet, Saturday, 27 January 2018, 20:19 GMT]A controversial star-class tourist resort, constructed in the Sinhala military-occupied private lands of uprooted Eezham Tamils in Kaangkeasan-thu'rai (KKS) in Jaffna, is to be subjected for foreign tendering by the SL State, the incumbent president Maithiripala Sirisena has stated in the South. The latest claim by the SL President has triggered strong reactions in Jaffna as the owners of the land were not ready to give up their claim of the lands unless the SL State was prepared to transfer the entire property to the Provincial Council for the promotion of tourism that could benefit the local population under the purview of the NPC Chief Minister. Full story >> CEB, BOI scheme permanent occupation of 600 acres of cultivation lands in Champoor[TamilNet, Thursday, 25 January 2018, 11:40 GMT]The lands seized for the abandoned project of coal power plant in Champoor in Moothooor East of Trincomalee still remain fenced off on the instruction from the Board of Investment (BOI) in Colombo. Cleaning work of the land is still going on and Colombo is planning to do something else there, the people who are resettled to the west of the BOI-seized lands said. Although it was said only 500 acres were taken over by the BOI as the main project land, around 600 acres are going to be totally fenced off, the people further said. Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) workers are also making regular inspection visits to the site, the villagers further said. Full story >> All departments at work to seize lands in Trincomalee for naval collaboration with USA[TamilNet, Wednesday, 24 January 2018, 13:20 GMT]The Department of Agrarian Development run by the unitary State of genocidal Sri Lanka has instructed the local Agrarian Service Center in Champoor area to collect details of forested lands which have once been cultivation lands. The details are being collected by the Agrarian Service Center officials through five agrarian organisations in Moothoor East, Trincomalee, informed grassroots sources in Champoor said. The latest move comes after an attempt by the SL Forest Department was confronted by the resettled people of Champoor in December 2017. In the meantime, the SL Forest Department is also preparing for another attempt to survey lands after 28th of February, the sources further said. Full story >> Colombo’s ‘development’ crime evicts one-third of resettled Tamils from border village in Batticaloa[TamilNet, Tuesday, 23 January 2018, 16:49 GMT]Almost one third of resettled Tamil families in the village of Oamadiyaa-madu village, located near the district border of Polonnaruwa-Batticaloa in the East, have displaced in recent months from their village due to the ‘development’ crimes committed against them by the occupying Colombo. This post-war displacement is caused by systematic deprivation of infrastructure and intentional neglect in the restoration of their livelihood by the central ministries and authorities of the unitary State system of genocidal Sri Lanka. The SL Ministry of so-called Mahaweli ‘Development’ is working behind the scene to Sinhalicise the entire area, Tamil civil sources in Batticaloa said. Full story >> Up-country origin Tamils most affected among uprooted in Mannaar[TamilNet, Sunday, 21 January 2018, 15:09 GMT]166 families, most of them poverty-stricken Tamils of Up-country origin, who lived with self-respect in Vanni until 1996 doing farming after they ended their centuries old plantation life after state-sponsored pogroms against Tamils in the island in 1977 and 1983, are now again transformed into people doing menial work in the local fishing industry in Peasaalai, Mannaar. The families are living at Chi'ruth-thoappu village which is located on Mannaar-Thalaimannaar Road as they had lost their lands and farms in Vanni to occupying SL military. The families displaced to Mannaar in 1996 and were residing in an open refugee camp operated with the support of UNHCR at that time. While majority of the uprooted people had vacated from the camp, 166 families were unable to resettle due to the war and as their original lands in Vanni were being seized by the occupying Sinhala military. Full story >> Sinhala colony schemed with expansion of Buddha temple at Punaa'nai, Batticaloa[TamilNet, Friday, 19 January 2018, 22:24 GMT]A small worship place with a Buddha statue, which was left behind by the occupying Army of genocidal Sri Lanka in 2016, has now been expanded into a big Buddhist temple establishment at 121st Mile Post on Colombo - Batticaloa Road in Punaa'nai East in Koa'ra'laip-pattu North (Vaakarai) division. The expansion has taken place in an accelerated phase in December 2017. The jungle area without any civilian settlement has been selected for Sinhala colonisation and the Buddhist vihara establishment has become the anchoring point, Tamil civil sources in Batticaloa North said. In the meantime, more than 150 Sinhala families have been settled near Punaa'nai Railway station three years ago. The settlement near the railway station was also commenced with the establishment of a similar Buddhist vihara. Full story >> Karuna paramilitary appropriates pastureland in Paduvaan-karai for electoral exploitation[TamilNet, Thursday, 18 January 2018, 21:42 GMT]Vinyagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna, a paramilitary leader who has been collaborating with the Rajapaksa regime in the past, is again deploying violence and various intimidations, now against a section of dairy farmers from Chiththaa'ndi in Batticaloa district. In an attempt to woo voters for his political party from his native village of Kiraan, he is grabbing public and forest lands to convert these into agricultural lands for farmers, who had distanced from him since his betrayal to the Tamil cause in 2004. Paramilitary personnel carrying weapons have shot and killed cows belonging to Chiththaa'ndi farmers who are using the disputed area as pastureland for their cattle. 200 acres of lands have already been seized at Paalaik-kaaddu-veddai, which is situated close to Mayilaththamadu in Koa'ra'laip-pattu South division. Full story >> SL Navy prepares Sinhala fisheries colony in Mullaiththeevu[TamilNet, Wednesday, 17 January 2018, 20:45 GMT]The occupying Sinhala Navy has renovated 300 huts in Naayaa'ru in Karaithu'raip-pattu division for the use of encroaching Sinhala fishermen from South. The SL Ministry of Fisheries and the SL Fisheries Department are backing the influx of Sinhala fishermen from other provinces into Mullaiththeevu despite repeated requests from the native fisheries societies in the district not to create conditions for confrontations between the Tamil and the Sinhala fishermen, says S. Jeya, the chairman of the fisheries federation in the district. The intruding Sinhala fishermen were staying from January/February to September last year and were engaged in fishing along the entire coast of Karaithu'raippattu division and Naayaa’ru lagoon. The Tamil prisoners have been complaining for a long time of threats of ethnic violence against them from Sinhala prisoners. Apart from being subjected to violence, some Tamil political prisoners have also been exposed to narcotics from the criminal prisoners. Full story >> Occupying SL Navy fences off temple of village deity near Villuk-ku’lam in Champoor[TamilNet, Friday, 12 January 2018, 22:19 GMT]The occupying Sinhala Navy of genocidal Sri Lanka has recently fenced off the temple of the village deity of Aathi (ancient) Vairavar, which is located near Champoor in Moothoor East of Trincomalee district. A few months ago, when the SL Navy was seizing more lands surrounding the naval training base of ‘SLNS Vidura’, the temple was left outside the ‘military zone’ for civilian access. But, in recent weeks, the SL Navy has moved on to absorb the Vairavar temple into military zone, according to the management of Champoor Vinaayakar Sana Samooka Nilayam, a local library in the area. The latest move also confirms the theory that the SL Navy was behind causing the recent controversy of so-called archaeological reserve of ‘Anuradhapura period’ Buddha stupa at Choodaik-kudaa in the nearby village of Kooniththeevu, where Eezham Tamils were having a village deity for at least 7 generations. Full story >> Land deed of disputed Kooniththeevu temple silently withdrawn[TamilNet, Thursday, 11 January 2018, 19:38 GMT]The files of the temple of Maththa'la-malai Murukan deity, which has been subjected to sudden claims of archaeological reserve by the Sinhala Buddhist establishment, have been secretly transferred away from Moothoor Divisional Secretariat this week by a District Secretariat official while the temple trustees were being kept in remand, informed civil sources told TamilNet on Thursday. The temple management had applied for official papers to document land ownership of the temple in 2014 and the Divisional Secretariat had recently received the land deed. But, it was transferred back to District Secretariat before the temple management was able to get it from the Divisional Secretariat, the sources said. Full story >> Sinhalicsiation threat looms again at Madu Road Junction in Mannaar[TamilNet, Wednesday, 10 January 2018, 19:02 GMT]The Administrating Priest of the Catholic shrine of Our Lady of Madu in Mannaar, Rev Fr S Emilianuspillai, has expressed serious concerns over the deteriorating level of militarisation of Madu Junction area despite repeated complaints from the Madu Church to the SL President Maithiripala Sirisena over the past two years. The SL military has transformed the Madu Road Junction, an area with spiritual significance into an amusement and business site by operating a restaurant and conducting parties at the locality, the Catholic residents of the area have complained. “The Army check point at the entrance to the Holy Shrine is a distraction and the main Army Camp at 6th milepost has been developed and appears like a small city by itself,” the Administrator of the Shrine of Our Lady of The Rosary noted in his letter to SL President. Full story >> Occupying Sinhala military steals contracts, employment from Tamils in North[TamilNet, Tuesday, 09 January 2018, 21:24 GMT]Lt Gen Mahesh Senanayake, the present commander of the occupying Sinhala Army of genocidal Sri Lanka is trying justify the overwhelming presence of the SL soldiers in the country of Eezham Tamils by claiming that one third of the soldiers were being deployed for construction work in civil sector. But, in reality, the Sinhala military is stealing the contracts from the firms of Tamils and is depriving Tamils of their employment. Ultimately, the SL military has seized the control of the entire market in the Tamil homeland from farming to construction, civil officials in Jaffna said. On the one hand, the unitary SL State is suppressing the Northern Provincial Council without allocating required funds for necessary development and rehabilitation work of the war-affected province, but on the other hand, it is waging a propaganda against the NPC as being inefficient, they further commented. The SLAF controls 8,500 acres of lands in Ampa-kaamam, 3,500 acres from Karippadda-mu'rippu to Ira'nai-madu and 2,200 acres in Keappaa-pulavu, where uprooted Tamil villagers are demanding de-militarisation and proper resettlement. In the meantime, The SL Navy base known as ‘SLNS Gotabaya’, which comes under the so-called Eastern Naval Area (ENA), has been officially allocated with 671 acres despite repeated protests from private land owners. The lands being allocated to SLNS Gotabhaya in Mu'l'livaaykkaal East also contains crucial evidences and traces of genocidal onslaught against Eezham Tamils in 2009 where the final onslaught took place in May 2009. Full story >> Kooniththeevu arrests illegal without Gazette notification: lawyer[TamilNet, Sunday, 07 January 2018, 22:13 GMT]Attorney-at-Law Arumukam Jegasothy from Trincomalee, one of the lawyers who appeared on behalf of the three Tamil trustees of the temple of Maththa’la-malai Murukan temple, said without a pre-existing Gazette notification on archaeological reserve at the time of the dispute and police action, the trustees could not be held in detention. The Sinhala lawyer who represented the prosecutor didn’t document the existence of a Gazette notification at Moothoor Magistrate’s court last time. Any new move to file a such notification cannot be used to justify the arrests and that the three trustees would be released by next time when the prosecutor fails to prove the pre-existence of such a Gazette notification. Full story >> SL Navy behind causing temple controversy at Kooniththeevu[TamilNet, Saturday, 06 January 2018, 23:06 GMT]Without having established anything scientifically and without even officially declaring anything through a Gazette notification, the SL Archaeology Department, which relies upon manipulations, extremist views, occupying Sinhala military and the ‘Buddhism foremost’ clauses of the unitary constitution, managed to build a false paradigm of an imaginative ‘stupa’ as having existed at the hill-top of Maththa'la-malai at the locality of Choodaik-kudaa in Kooniththeevu GS division of Moothoor East, Trincomalee. Basicially, the entire falsehood has been based on the utterances coming from the chief monk of Seruwila Mangala Raja Maha Viharaya, Munhene Mettarama thero. The Seruwila monk is someone who has been closely working with the occupying Sinhala Navy in Champoor, a well-informed source in Trincomalee told TamilNet on Saturday. Full story >> Conduct of SL Judiciary exposed in Koonith-theevu temple dispute[TamilNet, Thursday, 04 January 2018, 23:50 GMT]Moothoor Magistrate’s Court on Thursday further remanded the three Tamil trustees from Choodaik-kudaa in Kooniththeevu, who were arrested by the Sinhala police that invited them for a meeting at Champoor Police station on 01 January. Despite the occupying police failing to document the existence of a Gazette notification to prove the hill-top as an archaeological reserve as claimed by the Sinhala monks who filed the case, the Magistrate of the SL court went ahead extending the remand without bail, Tamil legal activists in Trincomalee complained. In the meantime, the dispute originated only after the intruding Sinhala Buddhist monks from Seruwila objected to the expansion of the Murukan temple of Tamils and there were no archaeological artefacts discovered or destroyed as being claimed by the Sinhalese, the leader of Champoor Women’s Rural Society Leader told TamilNet on Thursday. Full story >> Another stupa erected at controversial Buddhist vihara in Kokku'laay[TamilNet, Wednesday, 03 January 2018, 21:10 GMT]Sri Thissapura Gunarathna Thero, an extremist Sinhala Buddhist monk, who has been constructing a controversial Buddhist vihara establishment at the private lands of Eezham Tamils in the strategic Kokku'laay, which links the Northern and Eastern provinces, has put up another Buddhist stupa at the locality in recent weeks, Tamil officials at Karai-thu'raip-pattu division said. The monk is fully assisted by Sinhala soldiers who are deployed in civil clothes. Despite repeated complaints and interim orders coming from local and provincial authorities, the monk is continuing the construction with the backing of Colombo government, occupying Sinhala military and the extremist Buddhist Power Force (BBS). Mr Manivannathas, the Tamil owner of the land has once again sought help from the public to stop the construction work, but says no-one is coming forward to take up his case. Full story >> Colombo arrests Tamil temple trustees after controversial behaviour by Sinhalese in East[TamilNet, Monday, 01 January 2018, 23:17 GMT]The occupying Sinhala police from Champoor in Trincomalee has arrested three trustees of the temple of Maththa'la-malai Murukan deity, which is situated on the small hill-top in Kooniththeevu. The arrests have come as a shock to the families and the Tamil devotees despite the negative media focus last week on the conduct of Sinhala officials and monks, who were attempting to the Sinhalicise the temple of the Tamil deity, which has known to exist at the locality for at least 7 generations. The arrests have taken place on New Year day on Monday around 6:00 p.m. The SL Archaeology Department has moved the case without proving the origin of the artefact discovered during the digging of a well for the Murukan temple, the devotees in Koonith-theevu further said.
