Antiquities Ordinance used to justify Sinhalicisation of 48 locations in Mullaiththeevu

[TamilNet, Monday, 09 July 2018, 22:30 GMT]
The intruding Sinhala-Buddhist establishment and the occupying military of genocidal Sri Lanka are rushing ahead with the expansion of an already reconstructed Buddhist temple, the so-called Gurukanda Raja Maha Vihara (Gurukanda RMV), which is located at Chemmalai, Naayaa'ru in the coastal Karai-thu'raip-pattu division of Mullaiththeevu district. As the protesting Tamil land-owners successfully blocked the surveying of the lands earlier this month, the intruders are now citing an Extraordinary Gazette notification, issued in 2013 (1823/73) during the times of Rajapaksa rule, to proceed with their plans of expanding the Vihara, the civil sources at the District Secretariat said.

Colombo released lands with one hand to take away more with the other

[TamilNet, Saturday, 12 May 2018, 10:07 GMT]
On the one hand, the SL Government is waging propaganda claiming it is releasing pockets of lands in Valikaamam North in Jaffna. But, on the other hand, it is seizing more lands citing a war-time Gazette notification from 07 August 1987, complained A. Gunabalasingham, the president of Valikaamam North Rehabilitation Society. Gunabalasingham's reaction comes on Saturday as the Divisional Secretary of Valikaamam North, S. Sivasri, issued a fresh notice to report those whose lands (in the former High-Security Zone) were coming under the Gazette Notification 465/14, to his office at Thellippazhai.

8,500 landowner families remain uprooted due to Sinhala militarisation of Jaffna District

[TamilNet, Sunday, 08 January 2017, 15:31 GMT]
The Sinhala military of genocidal Sri Lanka is still occupying 5,322 acres of private lands owned by 8,065 families in Jaffna district, according to latest figures from the District Secretariat. Among the 14 administrative divisions in the district, 7,921 families uprooted from their 4,589 acres of lands are from Valikaamam North, which is administratively managed by Thellippazhai Divisional Secretariat. Of these, only 791 families (10%) reside in the so-called welfare camps. The remaining 7,130 landowner-families, uprooted from the fertile Valikaamam North, reside outside these camps in the island or elsewhere. In the meantime, Colombo's regime and its global backers are trying to deceive the poverty-stricken 10% in order to ensure permanent genocidal occupation of fertile Valikaamam North and the strategic coastline with its rich fish beds that belong to the nation of Eezham Tamils.

Secular Tamil nationalist aspirations weakened by global and regional religious paradigms

[TamilNet, Sunday, 20 November 2016, 23:49 GMT]
Failure of secular forces and Marxists in India and Dravidian movements in Tamil Nadu in delivering justice to the genocide-affected nation of Eezham Tamils, who have based their national question on secular foundations coming through millennia of Tamil language heritage, results in further meddling through globally and regionally simulated religious conflicts. The forces that work behind the fundamentalism of different religions in the island are one and the same. There is a master plan for the conquest of Tamil Nadu that is now ruled by the Dravidian movements for more than half a century. The coastlines between Tamil Nadu and the country of Eezham Tamils in the island share similar religious demography and there is a sinister move to create conflicts among these groups to weaken the language-based nationalism of all Tamils, commented Eezham Tamil and Tamil Nadu political observers.

Sinhala Buddhist vihara, SL militarization pose threat to resettlement at Valikaamam North

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 16 November 2016, 21:25 GMT]
0The occupying military of genocidal Sri Lanka has constructed Buddhist vihare at the site of a Saiva temple (Kumaara-koayil), which was located in the lands belonging to a popular Eezham Tamil female singer from Veemankaamam North GS Division in Valikaam North of Jaffna district. Uprooted Tamil families, along with some journalists in Jaffna, were able to access the area this week after 26 years. Despite the propaganda from SL President Maithiripala Sirisena that these lands were being released back to the people in Valikaamam North, the GS divisions still remains largely militarized, the journalists said providing visuals from the site. Sinhala police, SL ‘Terrorist’ Investigation Division and the ‘State Intelligence Service’ are occupying the lands that belong to more than 60 families at the locality surrounding the Buddhist temple, named ‘Gamunu Vihare’.

Colombo survyes lands for ‘Sinhala Military Zone’ in Valikaamam North

[TamilNet, Saturday, 22 October 2016, 22:48 GMT]
While the uprooted Tamils, demanding resettlement in their own villages in Valikaam North, are still denied access to their lands that are situated within the former ‘High Security Zone’ in Valikaamam North, 261 hectares of their lands are now being officially appropriated by the occupying genocidal Sri Lanka under the pretext of expanding the airport at Palaali. Thellippazhai Divisional Secretary has informed the people that their lands in three GS divisions are now being surveyed and appropriated according to an old Gazette notification of 25 November 1986. The SL Military ‘releasing’ selected pockets of lands, constructing deceptive housing schemes and the SL President Sirisena making ‘reconciliation’ PR stunts with the propaganda of resolving land issues, are all camouflage acts being deployed for the creation of a permanent Sinhala Military Zone in Jaffna.

Details of next-phase structural genocide of Valikaamam North come to light

[TamilNet, Saturday, 27 August 2016, 23:08 GMT]
The commander of occupying SL military in Jaffna, Major General Mahesh Senanayake staged a hurriedly organised ‘ceremony’ on Friday instructing a section of recipients selected for 20 of 100 houses in the military-constructed housing-scheme at limestone quarry lands in Keerimalai. Sinhala military personnel outnumbering the civilian recipients of the housing scheme were demonstrating how the people of Valikaamam North are going to be surrounded by the occupying military forever. While the occupying SL military has robbed more than 5,000 acres of fertile, residential lands in the Valikaamam North and the entire Mayiliddi coast with the most resource-rich sea beds in the North and evicted more than 50,000 people from their villages, the Sirisena blueprint now wants to create resettlement slums and make the people of Valikaamam North subordinate to Sinhala military.

[TamilNet, Sunday, 24 July 2016, 23:00 GMT]
While keeping 70% of the lands seized from the people of Valikaamam North, the occupying Navy of genocidal Sri Lanka is trying to deceive a section of uprooted Tamils from Mayiliddi with a fishing jetty at Keerimalai, considered as a sacred site by all the Saivites in the country of Eezham Tamils. Saiva priests from Keerimalai and Thellippazhai, former divisional councillors from Valikaamam North and TNA Parliamentarian Tharmalingam Siththarthan joined the protesters extending their political support.

Colombo beefs up borders of Sinhala military colonization in Jaffna

[TamilNet, Thursday, 29 October 2015, 00:09 GMT]
The occupying military of ‘Sri Lanka’ is once again strengthening the borderlines along the former ‘High Security Zone’ areas in Valikaamam North in Jaffna. Most of these lands were permanently seized from Eezham Tamils by the previous regime of Colombo. The SL military and the new regime in Colombo, buying time citing ‘step-by-step’ release, have been reluctant to release the illegally seized lands back to Tamil owners. When the uprooted Tamils stepped up their protests demanding the SL President Maithiripala Sirisena to officially gazette the release of the lands, the new regime openly claimed that the release of lands was a matter to be decided by the SL military. Now, after coming to terms with the USA through UNHRC discourse, Colombo is again restricting access across the borders of the former HSZ that encloses the KKS harbour, Palaali airport and the SL military base at Palaali.

Book on Eezham Tamil educationalist reproduced in Canada

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 22 July 2015, 16:49 GMT]
The Toronto-based Saiva Siddhanta Manram in Canada has reproduced a valuable old publication on a unique Eezham Tamil educationalist, Aru'naasala Upaaththiyaayar, born 150 years ago at Kaarai-theevu (Kaarainakar), an island off Jaffna Peninsula. The reprint, which will be released on Saturday at Scarborough Civic Centre, is of much historical importance to today’s younger generation of Eezham Tamils as well as to academics studying the affairs of the island of Ilangkai/ Lanka, to understand the discourse of the struggle for self-respect waged by the nation of Eezham Tamils in the times of British colonialism. The teacher devoted his entire life in challenging and edifying the then British and American ‘educational imperialism,’ which demanded that one has to become a Christian in order to become a teacher in any of the government recognised schools.

SL State sustains genocidal grip on Eezham Tamils citing ‘LTTE affiliation’

[TamilNet, Thursday, 09 July 2015, 21:43 GMT]
The Sinhala police system of occupying Colombo has once again demonstrated that it could subject any Eezham Tamil civilian to detention under ‘terrorism’ charges under the notorious Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and the Emergency Regulations. The latest case is a Tamil civilian from A'laveddi in Jaffna who lived for some time at Mallaavi in Vanni after the mass exodus of Eezham Tamils from Jaffna peninsula in 1995. Anyone having a family member or close relative with LTTE connection in the past is a potential threat in the eyes of the Sri Lankan military and police. The ‘LTTE affiliation’ has become a ‘valid military objective’, which is necessary to pursue the genocidal project.

IC should act on de-militarisation of Valikaamam, Champoor: Shageevan

[TamilNet, Monday, 13 April 2015, 23:29 GMT]
Without de-militarisation, it is not possible to achieve proper resettlement, even at the minimum standard in the military-occupied former High Security Zone in the North and in the Champoor region in the East. “The international community knows this very well. But, it intentionally avoids putting forward this as a demand,” says S. Shageevan, the deputy chairperson of the Divisional Council of Valikaamam North and the president of the welfare association of uprooted people from Valikaamam North. The International Community has been allowing the previous and current regimes in Colombo to buy necessary “time and space” in Geneva and in New York after 2009. It was during this time Colombo transformed the former High Security Zone into a permanent military zone, he further said, urging the Tamils to focus on making the IC to act on the demand of de-militarisation.

Apart from serving his people as an educationalist, Mr Varatharajan stepped in as a grassroots civil activist whenever his people faced a challenging time under outside occupations. Eezham Tamils are a distinct nation with their own sovereignty in the unified North and East of the island was his political stand and he advocated a confederal model as the minimum acceptable solution.

SL military robs IDP registry from Thellippazhai DS Secretariat

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 21 January 2014, 16:56 GMT]
The occupying Sinhala military in Jaffna on Monday evening entered the Divisional Secretariat of Valikaamam North, situated at Thellippazhai, and robbed the registries containing the details of uprooted civilians from the civil officials at gunpoint. The SL military officers then instructed the DS and his officials not to talk about the incident. Informed sources told TamilNet that the robbery was carried out on the instruction by the new Jaffna commander of the occupying Sinhala military, Maj. Gen. Udaya Perera, who is trying to manipulate the statistics of uprooted people of Valikaamam North, the area where former ‘High Security Zone’ is being transformed into a Sinhala Military Zone by the SL military permanently seizing the fertile lands and properties of the Eezham Tamils.

[TamilNet, Sunday, 19 January 2014, 16:49 GMT]

Credible sources put the figure of the occupying military at minimum 136,000. At least 36,000 soldiers are stationed in Jaffna peninsula and the remaining 100,000 are in the Vanni mainland. The SL president thinks that the international Establishments would be buying his figures as they did during the genocidal onslaught on Vanni in 2009, political observers in Jaffna said.
