Funeral of LTTE cadre held in Vavuniya

International Elders-Children Day held in Vavuniya

“Society should not forget the fact that, as a result of war, children have been facing severe problems with respect to education and nutrition. Poor nutrition affects the development of the body and the brain. If these effects on the children are not immediately addressed, nothing could ever be done later, as the effects would be permanent. Society will then be faced with insurmountable problems in the future,” said Dr. Arumugam Ketheeswaran, the deputy director of health services in Vavuniya, speaking at the international Elders-Children day held at the Vavuniya town hall Sunday.

SLA said baulking shortest route to Jaffna

‘War has ruined education of NE Tamil students’

Nanthakumar, Tuesday said that the twenty-year war has ruined the education of students in the Northeast province, and the standard of education among Tamil students in the province has gone down to the extent that more students enter universities on district quota system than on merit as in the past.

Vavuniya police arrests youths over abduction

Ilancheliyan, ordered remand under high security for three youths arrested by the Vavuniya Police Monday in connection with the abduction of two girls who were thought to have joined the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, but were in fact abducted by unidentified men who later abandoned the girls at the Maravankulam settlement, sources in Vavuniya said.

Two missing girls in Vavuniya found

UNICEF book on mine risk education launched

Hazing, clashes in Jaffna Campus injure freshmen
