Permits introduced to remove sand in Vadamaradchi

At a conference summoned by the Point Pedro Magistrate, Mr.K.Ariyanayagam, Thursday, it was decided to introduce a permit system to remove sand for local building construction purposes in the Amban and Kudathanai areas in the Vadamaradchi east division with effect from next week, civil sources said.

The Point Pedro Magistrate, Mr. K.Ariyanayagam, Wednesday ordered the confiscation of two vehicles with sand excavated from the Vadamaradchi coastal area violating the temporary ban imposed by the authorities concerned. Several persons are engaged in removing sand violating the temporary ban imposed, legal sources said.

SLA seeks fishermen’s co-operation to conduct checks
