Colombo's desecration of Tamil Heroes Cemetery comes to light as SLA vacates Kanakapuram

The occupying SL military destroyed Tamil War Heroes Cemetery (Maaveerar Thuyilum Illam) at Kanakapuram in Ki’linochchi in January 2009, desecrating the buried bodies of Tamil fighters in an inhumane manner and bulldozing all the tombstones. Hundreds of destroyed tombstones were used as stones for SL military driveways in the occupied Ki’linochchi. In 2013, as the people started to resettle, the elected Divisional Council of Karaichchi division resolved to transform the destroyed Heroes Cemetery into a park as the 10-acres land was originally a property of the civic body. Within a few days of the declaration, the SL military fenced off the lands to block the move and deployed the area for military use. Last week, the SL military finally vacated from the grounds and reporters were able to witness the extent of desecration and destruction caused by the SL military.

While proposing to release those detained after 2010, Colombo is insistent upon prolonging the detention of Tamil political prisoners detained for several years by transferring their cases to the so-called Special Court in Anuradhapura, which has only investigated 3 of the 18 cases of Tamil prisoners of war since its establishment. The same court has investigated hundreds of petty crimes, they said. Colombo insisting upon subjecting Eezham Tamils on ‘Terrorism’ charges while entertaining Sinhala genocidaires with State honour has amply demonstrated that Colombo is not prepared to face the future with necessary attitudinal change, they further said.

White van abduction reported in Ki'linochchi on International Day of Disappeared

A white-van squad has abducted a 26-year-old Tamil man, who was formerly a member of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and released after the so-called ‘military rehabilitation’ on Tuesday while Eezham Tamils from all the districts in the Northern and Eastern Provinces took to the streets on the International Day of the Disappeared demanding international investigations against the genocidal State of Sri Lanka on the burning issue of thousands of forcible disappearances carried out by the occupying Sinhala military and its paramilitaries. The latest abduction in Ki'linochchi, believed to be the work of SL Military Intelligence, is the ‘military response’ to the destruction of Buddha statues in the early hours of the day, political activists in Ki'linochchi said.

Recent findings have also revealed that the SL Police was behind the torture and the eventual murder of Tamil youth. All these reports bring Tamils back to the fundamental question whether the ‘Sri Lankan’ judicial system could ever be trusted in delivering justice, said Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam. All these have taken place, as there is a sense that the International Community – for geopolitical reasons – would rather have this government in power than the previous government, which had a different dispensation internationally, he said adding that the SL government is “so sure that the International Community would not do anything to question its actions.”

Colombo continues to dilly-dally on processing political prisoners‘ cases

SL Attorney General's Department is trying to transfer the cases of Tamil political prisoners to the courts in Colombo where it expects the judges not to dismiss the confessions obtained under torture from the Tamil prisoners, said the family of a 32-year-old Tamil political prisoner, Sulaxan Mathiyarasan. The Tamil political prisoner, detained since 18 May 2009, called off his hunger strike in February this year after SL Attorney General's Department promised action within 14 days. But, the Attorney General's Department has not only failed to live up to the promise, but it has also been trying to postpone and transfer the case away from Vavuniyaa High Court, Sulaxan's mother has complained to media.

Tamil students from other faculties mobilised to defend their fellow students at the Science Faculty and Sinhala military intelligence personnel in civil clothes entered the premises brutally attacking Tamil students. More than 10 students were rushed to hospital with injuries since the clash started at 2:00 p.m.

Amaithipuram exposes disparity in ‘development’ motives of Colombo, external powers

In contrast, Sinhala colonization settlements being created in the occupied country of Eezham Tamils by the genocidal unitary State in South are fully utilized with sustainable and modern solutions in all areas, be it housing, livelihood, education arrangements and state-of-the art road infrastructure. But, in Amaithi-puram, like in several other villages of ‘resettled’ Tamils, even the houses built under the Indian housing assistance have become rotten to the core within 5 years.

If the workers revealed the findings, the FSD would lose its project and they would risk losing their jobs as funds coming from USA, Japan and EU would go to other mine clearing agencies, the workers were told by the FSD hierarchy.

After the end of genocidal onslaught on Vanni in May 2009, the project of Sinhalicisation has been intensified through the Sinhala colony of Padaviya in Anuradhapura and Vavuniyaa districts and the entire Ma'nalaa'ru (Weli-oya) area has been fully Sinhalicised and emerged as the ‘Sinhala Only’ administrative division in Mullaiththeevu.

War-affected, poverty-stricken Tamil villagers complain of neglect in housing assistance

104 Eezham Tamil families, who have resettled in Isaimalaith-thaazhvu village, which is located 3 km southeast of Murungkan town along Mannaar - Mathavaachchi Road in Naanaaddaan division, complain that they are being systematically neglected in all the housing schemes reaching Mannaar district. The families, mostly dependent on animal farming or agriculture close to their temporary huts, live below the poverty line, and are among the poorest in Mannaar district. Their houses were either demolished or taken over by the occupying SL military and the notorious Special Task Force (STF) in February 1997 during the brutal military operation code named ‘Edibala’.

23 Tamils detained under PTA in recent weeks

The notorious ‘Terrorist’ Investigation Division (TID) of occupying Colombo has detained at least 23 Eezham Tamils from North and East at various prisons since 29 March. The arrests have taken place in white-van abduction style and through hostage-taking of family members. One of the victims is a woman, who is detained at Vavuniyaa. Two males are being interrogated at the so-called 4th Floor torture chamber in Colombo, while the remaining 20 are being detained at Boosa prison in Galle district in the South. All the ‘arrests’ have been carried out under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), with judicial evidence standards for arrest lower than even "reason to believe."

Colombo deploys military to carry out extra-judicial arrests, hostage-taking in North-East

Colombo's military Establishment has stepped up white-van abductions and hostage-taking of family members of former LTTE members in the North and East in the recent weeks. At least 13 Eezham Tamils, including a woman, are being detained at the moment in the notorious torture chamber known as 4th Floor in Colombo, legal sources in Colombo said. Ex-LTTE members returning from employment abroad in the Middle East have been subjected to arrests at Katunayake airport. In the meantime, the ‘Terrorist’ Investigation Division (TID), operated from Colombo had taken two siblings of a former LTTE member in Batticaloa as hostages till the person they were searching for turned himself over to the TID, the sources in Colombo said. While claiming ‘good-governance’ and ‘reconciliation’ to outside world, the Colombo regime has reinforced Sinhala military rule in the occupied country of Eezham Tamils.

The Eezham Tamil visitor, engaged in humanitarian work from abroad for a long time, was recently lured into ‘think’ as ‘Sri Lankan’ by the ‘reconciliation’ desk of the foreign ministry in the country of citizenship.
