Muslim civilian abducted in Puththa'lam

Unidentified gunmen arriving in a vehicle abducted a Muslim civilian Sunday early morning from his house in a suburb called Viruthoodai in Mathurankuli village in Puththa'lam district. Armed men called H.H.K.Nainamarikaar, 38, out of his house and pushed him into the vehicle and drove off, according to complaints lodged with the Puththa'lam Police by his wife and relatives.

SLAF steps up air-strikes on civilian settlements in Vanni

Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) bombers attacked civilian settlements in Vanni killing three Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and wounding five on Tuesday. One air-strike targeted IDPs who were dismantling their huts to leave from Mu'rika'ndi 155 Mile Post area that has been targeted by SLA shelling since Monday, as foreign aid workers and NGO officials were leaving the region. Six houses have been destroyed by the SLAF bombers that bombed four locations, with more than 16 bombs. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) fired artillery shells targeting Puthumu'rippu, Oottuppulam, Chaanthapuram and Ira'naimadu area from 7:40 p.m.

22 SLA killed in Akkaraayan fighting, arms seized, say Tigers

Akkaraayan fightingMore than 22 Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers were killed and at least 53 wounded Monday when the Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) put up stiff resistance against the SLA offensive units that advanced in Akkaraayan area, southwest of Ki'linochchi district, the Tigers said. Releasing photographs taken from the battlefield where they recovered four SLA dead bodies and seized rocket launchers and machine guns, the LTTE officials told media in Vanni that the SLA was pushed back. Clearing mission was still going on, the Tigers said. Meanwhile, SLA officials in Colombo put their casualties as low as 3 killed in action and 9 wounded.

SLA shells A9 at Mu'rika'ndi

0Sri Lanka Army (SLA) has launched heavy artillery and Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) fire targeting A9 and the surrounding villages at Mu'rika'ndi from 7:00 a.m. Monday, according to initial reports from the area. At least one civilian was wounded in the artillery barrage and two shops in Mu'rika'ndi junction were destroyed in the shelling. Civilians were fleeing from 55th Mile Post and Ira'naimadu junction where ICRC Ki'linochchi office is located. All traffic on A9 to Oamanthai exit point has been cut off due to the artillery barrage.

TID questioned Ganesan on his visits to Ki'linochchi

The Sri Lankan Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) on Tuesday questioned Civil Monitoring Commission Convener and Western Peoples Front Leader Mano Ganesan for six hours from 11:00 a.m. The questions were based on his peace delegation visits to Ki'linochchi during the CFA period between 2002 and 2004. The TID wanted to know if he had developed any 'special relationship' with the LTTE during the these visits. Mano Ganesan has vehemently refused any 'special relationship' with LTTE and any link with any arrested 'terrorist suspects', according to a statement released Wednesday by his office in Colombo.

NPM opposes granting police, land powers to PCs

6 civilians arrested in Chilaw

Six civilians, majority of them are Tamils were arrested at Munthal in Chilaw police division Monday night at a check point manned by the police and Sri Lanka Army at Karikaattu Veethi when they subjected a vehicle they were traveling for search. The police said they found camouflage army uniforms in the possession of some of the occupants, media sources said.

SLN conducts large scale search in Nedunththeevu

Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) in Nedunththeevu, assisted by policemen and Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troops brought down from Jaffna peninsula in large numbers, launched a joint cordon and search operation in Nedunththeevu Sunday, clamping a curfew from 10:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m. sources in Jaffna said. Anyone arrested during this search is not known.

The SLA on Friday stepped up DPU attacks in LTTE controlled Vanni as the region was observing a national mourning day following the demise of LTTE's Senior Commander Brigadier Balraj.
