Eleven Grama Sevaka (GS) Village Officers, from GS divisions in Vadamaraadchi, Thenmaraadchi, Valikaamam and the islets in Jaffna peninsula, flown to Colombo on New Year Day to Police Crime Branch (PCB) Interrogation centre ‘Fourth Floor’ by PCB officials, returned to Jaffna Sunday morning after being interrogated by Crime Branch officials in Colombo, sources in Jaffna said.

Two bodies with cut wounds recovered in Thenmaraadchi

Bodies of two youths, estimated to be between ages 25 and 30, were recovered Sunday morning in Poakaththai area in Kaithadi, Thenmaraadchi, Jaffna, with severe cut wounds to the body, including deep wounds to the neck inflicted by a sharp instrument, sources in Jaffna said. Chaavakachcheari Police transferred the bodies to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital Sunday noon for identification and postmortem examinations.

Meanwhile, a mason from Oaddumadam in Jaffna is reported missing since Wednesday after leaving work in the morning, according to complaint made with HRC Monday.

Family members of a student residing at Amman Koayiladi in Kantharmadam in Jaffna town regidtered complaint to Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna office about the student gone missing since Friday. Meanwhile, a day labourer from Vara'ni in Thenmaraadchi had gone missing since Saturday, according to a separate complaint made to the HRC . Both complaints were registered Monday.

Heavy artillery duel, clashes in Northern FDL positions

Clashes between Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) erupted Tuesday around 1:30 a.m at Mukamaalai in Thenmaraadchi and Naakarkoayil in Vadamraadchi in which both sides engaged in heavy artillery duel and gunfire exchange, SLA sources said. Movement of LTTE combatants near the northern Front Defence Line (FDL) positions triggered the clashes, the sources added.

Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) launched heavy artillery attack Saturday afternoon, amidst continuing rain, on key Sri Lanka Amy (SLA) bases in Va'ra'ni and Kodikaamam in Themaraadchi, killing one SLA trooper and injuring two, SLA sources said. Meanwhile, heavy exchange of gunfire erupted between LTTE and SLA Sunday around 7:45 a.m north of A9 land route at Ki'laali, but none of the their troops were injured, SLA sources added, confirming the clash.
